Mission Statement

The mission of the Evangelism Committee is to lead the congregation in witnessing to God’s grace by reaching out and inviting all God’s children to share in a life in Jesus by creating and fostering a welcoming church environment where all may experience His love through spiritual encouragement, ongoing discipleship and the sharing of God's gifts.

The Evangelism Committee at Hibben is responsible for reaching out into the community and joyfully receiving any person who desires to join our family of believers. We strive to make visitors feel welcome and to help new members to become an active part of our church body. Below is a partial listing of the outreach activities which Hibben supports. A detailed description of each activity follows.

  • Welcome
  • Bread of Life Ministry
  • New Member Sundays
  • New Member Bulletin Board
  • New Member Classes

Welcome

Greeters provide a smile, handshake and a warm welcome for all who come to worship. Visitors and members to Hibben's Sunday morning worship services are asked to sign the attendance pad located on each pew. This allows members to identify visitors seated near them so that they can welcome and offer assistance to our guests. Information from the attendance pads is recorded in the church office. First time visitors are sent a note of welcome by the Pastors.

Bread of Life Ministry

First time local visitors are taken a loaf of home made bread. The bread is an extension of the Bread of Life -Jesus Christ- given for us. Mary Ann Bolt leads this ministry.

New Member Sundays

New Member Sundays are held on the second Sunday of each month. Baptisms are often held on these Sundays also. If you would like to become a member of Hibben UMC, please speak with one of our pastors or call the church office.

New Member Bulletin Board

Photographs of all new members are displayed on the New Member Bulletin Board in the hallway outside the Narthex to help current members to recognize those just joining us. -

New Member Classes

Three consecutive weekly classes are held at various times through out the year during the Sunday School hour. These classes cover the Basic Christian Beliefs, The United Methodist Church and an introduction to Hibben's leaders. This class is taught by our pastors and is recommended for those who are considering joining Hibben and also for new members who have not previously attended the class
