Worship at Hibben United Methodist Church
Candlelight Service 2002

If you are new to the Mount Pleasant area, visiting from out of town, or are simply looking for a place to belong, we invite you to join us in worship.

Our worship services are designed to give worshipers meaningful ways of expressing our love to God and of receiving God's love for us. It is our belief that you will find Hibben to be a warm and open congregation seeking to experience the joy of living together in Christian community.  We hope you will consider joining us on our spiritual journey.

To see what you can expect when you visit Hibben on a Sunday morning, we invite you to visit our Visitors Information page. Our ministers would be happy for you to drop by and talk to them. Our address, phone numbers and office hours can be found at the top of our Main page.

Candlelight Service on 24 December

Services

Worship services are held at 8:15 and 10:30 AM. every Sunday. Holy Communion (Eucharist) is celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month at both services in addition to special holy days. Holy Communion is open to all who wish to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. Nursery care is available for our youngest attendees and children ages 4 to fifth grade are invited to go to Children's Church after the "Children's Moment". The children return from Children's Church to their families in the Sanctuary just prior to the "Benediction".

Educational opportunities are provided for all ages on Sunday morning at 9:15 AM. Visit the various Age Level Ministry (Children, Youth, Adults) pages for additional information.

Acolyte Ministry
Acolytes Hibben’s Acolyte Ministry is open to children and youth from 3rd through 12th Grade.  Acolytes have been serving in worship services since at least 250 A.D.  They carry an important role in bringing the light of Christ into worship and assisting with worship.  The young people spend time each January learning about the liturgy of worship, the symbolism of the chancel and nave setting, and the liturgical church calendar and their role as acolytes and crucifers in the Worship Service.  The crucifer leads the procession at the beginning of the Service, carrying in the Processional Cross and the acolytes follow with the Taper, lighting the Altar Candles.  They sometimes share in assisting with baptisms and they assist with Holy Communion.  In addition to Sunday, they also assist at various special services throughout the year.  If you are interested in serving the Lord as an acolyte, please contact the church office.

Hibben's Acolyte Schedule for 2008 is available on the Publications and Forms page under Miscellaneous Forms and Documents.

Projector and Screen
We now have a projector system permanently installed in our sanctuary.  A 10 foot powered screen has been installed above the sacristy entrance, angled slightly toward the right side of the sanctuary, and a 3500 lumen projector has been mounted on the back wall approximately 15 feet above floor level. A PC with PowerPoint and the church specific presentation program, Sunday Plus, is located in the sound/media room. The lowering and raising of the powered screen is also controlled from the sound room. The projector has a computer input capability and will also accept inputs from VCRs, camcorders and DVD players.

We are now able to project text (with graphics), along with photos and videos associated with the many church activities occurring at Hibben. Our goal is to use this new visual medium to complement the spoken/heard word of our current worship services.

Music
Our worship of God is enhanced by the exceptional talents and gifts offered by our musicians and Chancel Choir.

Hibben is blessed, through the generosity of our members and friends, to have a brand new Johannus organ. This is a state-of-the-art organ combining digital technology with traditional pipes. Our Chancel Choir is composed of talented singers under the direction of Mr. Scott Brunson. This choir provides special music at the 10:30 worship service each Sunday. Frequently throughout the year, we also incorporate additional instrumentals, such as flutes, brass horns and handbells.

The congregation sing hymns found in the United Methodist Hymnal and the supplement "The Faith We Sing." Our accompianist are our organist, Mrs. Pam Brunson and pianist, Mrs. Norma Taylor. Additional information can be found on our Music page.
